My dogs love this. As for mats, it took a lot to even get a little one out. It was easier to just give my dog a big hair cut because it was making her uncomfortable. As for brushing however, it did a great job! It gets a lot of the undercoat out and my dog loved every second of it. Every time I would stop for just a few seconds she would just look at me and wait for me to keep brushing her and as soon as I would start again she would almost snore.

We have a long haired cat and we have been brushing her daily with a regular brush(which she didn't like). We were starting to get mats though and I wanted something to help cut them out. I had a three-blade style dematting comb, but it was too much work and it was only making the cat upset. On a whim I picked this tool and I love it. I haven't seen this much fur/hair on an animal since I helped a friend brush her Husky.

This works!!! We have a long hair black cat who's hair tangles and knots up. He also has horrible anxiety problems! So taking him to a groomer was out of the question. I was able to comb all through his hair. He purred and rolled over. I think he is incredibly grateful to have the knots gone. I imagine they hurt and pull at his skin.
Update!!! Is it possible for something to be too good?!! Our cat still loves it!

This rake is wonderful. It pulls out loose hair so efficiently. One side has fewer hooks than the other and is useful for starting on the coat. After you have removed a good bit of hair with that side you can flip over to the other side where the hooks are closer together and that works well for pulling off even more hair. The rake is sturdy, well made and fairly comfortable to use. The only thing that I could complain about is that the fur is difficult to remove from the rake. As long as a lot of fur collects on it it's easy to remove as a clump but when you start getting only a little fur off the dog it becomes more difficult to remove from the rake. Just FYI I recently read about a trick to help with the ease of brushing/removing loose fur and I tried it with this rake. If you spray on leave in conditioner, fur detangler or shed reducing spray before you begin grooming (before or after a bath, in between baths, wet or dry coat) and as you work it will help in several ways. It helps the tool to move more smoothly with less drag as you brush through the coat. It also helps keep the fur from floating around in the air. The fur comes off with less pulling on the dog and as a bonus these sprays usually smell really nice and help deodorize the dog. It also makes them nice and shiny.

I have a 20 year old cat that can no longer go to the groomer due to seziures brought on by the noise from the clippers (yes, even the "silent" ones). This brush was a lifesaver! She hates being brushed & trying to get her belly especially was dang near impossible. Next thing I know, her whole belly had lots of pretty bad mats. Although she still hates being brushed, we did little 5 minute sessions, and the mats came off so easy! No pulling too hard, no over working the same spots. Even for a cat that wasn't excsactly having a great time, it was wonderful! I've tried every kind of soft brush, rake brush, mat combs, even silent clippers over the years. However, this rake-brush has by far been THE BEST at removing cat mats!
I also use it on my 5 year old Norwegian Forest cat, holy hair!!!
I really don't think you will be disappointed if you try it. I am so happy I bought this and wish I knew about it sooner!
